Benny was a faith-filled family man and an avid runner and fisherman. He logged several full marathons and could be spotted most mornings running through Lakeview, Bucktown and Old Metairie. He was married to Yolande Burst for 52 years and they had 5 children (Benny, Shawn, Scott, Mike & Tara), 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In early 2013, Benny began searching for answers to some vague symptoms he was experiencing;  by June he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). After several rounds of chemotherapy, he lost his fight on December 21, 2013. This “Bursting with Speed” 5K  is being held to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Few advances have been made in AML treatment; let’s team together on April 8 to make a difference!
